AVEA Group transports a 42.5-tonne metal catwalk for the Port of Valencia

AVEA Group has carried out the special transport of a metal-framed catwalk to the Port of Valencia. The load, measuring 20.50 x 3.88 x 4.03 metres and weighing 42,500 kg, was transported on an extendable, lowered 8-axle dolly, reinforced with auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and stable transit.

An oversized load to the Port of Valencia

The operation was part of an exceptional heavy load transport, as the load exceeded the usual dimensions and weight of conventional transport. The AVEA Group has its own resources and experience in moving metal structures, industrial machinery, prefabricated modules and other oversized loads to ports and industrial centres.

The assembled unit had overall dimensions of 35,910 x 3,888 x 4,500 mm, with a total weight of 98,548 kg distributed across 8 axles. This configuration allowed the loads per axle to be correctly distributed and maintained stability throughout the journey to the Port of Valencia.

Extendable 8-axle low-loader

For this service, an extendable low-loader with a detachable neck was used, equipped with hydraulic suspension and a payload capacity of up to 80 tonnes in a dolly configuration. The low deck reduces the load height, a key advantage for moving tall steel structures without compromising the road-going clearance.

The equipment also incorporated additional 7.5 and 5.5-metre beams, as well as support floors in front of and behind the load. A 7.00 m beam was fitted to the rear to reinforce the assembly and safely distribute the weight of the catwalk during loading, transport and unloading.
